Art by Warhammer Online

Warhammer Online allows users to program their own add-ons for the game. Usually these are basic ways of taking information already provided by the UI and displaying them in a different way. The largest add-on created that you may have used already is from WARDB. It takes information from players (if they’ve installed the add-on) and feeds the database with information about all the items, quests, NPCs, etc. that they come in contact with. If you’ve played World of Warcraft you know how amazing the add-on community is in creating new and interesting ways for us to play our games. We’re going to take the time to go over how to install add-ons in Warhammer Online (as it stands in Open Beta) and we’re going to review a few add-ons that we feel are very helpful.

How do you install Warhammer add-ons? That’s a good question. Here’s how:

1. Go to your Warhammer game directory.
2. If you don’t have the directory already, create a directory called “Interface”
3. Inside the Interface directory create a directory called “AddOns”
4. Transfer the folder that you downloaded to this directory.

Here is the end result:

With that settled, let’s take a look at a few add-ons that can be extremely helpful to you.

WhinySpellTimer

This was something that many thought was missing from the WAR UI. For newer players at least, it may be difficult to recognize all of the different spell effects just by the icon. This add-on gives you a bar that you can easily read and also visually depicts the duration of each item listed. These bars also show up in the UI layout editor so that you can place them wherever you want. There is also a bar for the enemy target.

Schobers 414 SCT

This is a common favorite among World of Warcraft players, though it should be mentioned this is not the SCT (ScrollingCombatText) developed by the original creator from WOW. However, he has stated that he will be making one of his own. This add-on allows you to view the combat text during battle in a different way. In this mod you can view the damage circling around your avatar as pointed out in the picture’s arrows. Keep yourself updated with other scrolling text add-ons that allow more customization.

zChatWindow

A simple add-on that gives you a little more control of your chat UI box. It allows you to change the font and it’s scale. You can also change whether the input command line is on the top or bottom. It also inputs a time stamp on every line. Very useful.

Notice: Libslash is necessary to have installed for the slash commands of the add-ons listed above to work. Make sure you download it.

We hope that you find these as interesting and useful as we have. If you have any problems installing them please post in our forums, or you can interact with the authors over at Curse.

All add-ons were downloaded from Curse.
