One of the most interesting features of Warhammer Online is the Tome of Knowledge. As the name implies, this feature is a virtual book containing nearly all the information about your character and his or her exploits in the game. It’s like having a video camera recording your every action, except this time it won’t be used as criminal evidence. While this isn’t exactly a new feature to MMO’s, it’s still uncommon enough for most players to have never encountered something of its type before. It probably won’t take long for those same players to wonder why every other MMO doesn’t have this feature already. So what makes the Tome of Knowledge such a quality addition to Warhammer? Crack open the cover (in this case, the “More…” button below) and find out.

Warhammer Online allows users to program their own add-ons for the game. Usually these are basic ways of taking information already provided by the UI and displaying them in a different way. The largest add-on created that you may have used already is from WARDB. It takes information from players (if they’ve installed the add-on) and feeds the database with information about all the items, quests, NPCs, etc. that they come in contact with. If you’ve played World of Warcraft you know how amazing the add-on community is in creating new and interesting ways for us to play our games. We’re going to take the time to go over how to install add-ons in Warhammer Online (as it stands in Open Beta) and we’re going to review a few add-ons that we feel are very helpful.
This is a preliminary post describing each of the range dps careers, their basic mechanics and what we believe their role will be throughout the leveling process and at the end game. We can in no way tell you for sure how everything pans out since we have not experienced every class at every level, but being the awesome MMO gamers that we are we can make some very good educated guesses. Anything we miss please post and comment on them. We’re always looking for a good discussion so that we can put out the best information available to us right now.
Range DPS Careers
Squig Herder, Engineer, Magus, Shadow Warrior, Bright Wizard, Sorceress

We have already explained Tactics and now it’s time to turn an eye towards Morale Abilities. When we talked about character customization appearing to be flat or linear we explained that after your Mastery Paths you could further customize your character’s abilities by creating different tactic sets. Beyond that, you can further differentiate your character by choosing Morales. Here is how that system works.

Tanking Careers
Ironbreaker, Swordmaster, Black Orc and Chosen

In Warhammer people may be concerned about the lack or the limited amount of ways you can customize your character outside gear choices. People may look at the mastery trees and see relatively linear lines of progression across three different “trees”. Then some veteran beta testers and those lucky enough to get into the preview weekend will start saying things like “tactics” and “morale abilities”. This is where the customization and the unique play style of the individual comes into play. The intent of this article is to explain to you what tactics are and how they affect your character.

Healing Careers
Archmage, Rune Priest, Warrior Priest, Shaman, Zealot, Disciple of Khaine

In Warhammer Online there are two different basic differences between healers, range healing and melee healing. The melee healers have to be within weapons range in order to build up their power mechanic that allows them to cast their healing spells. The ranged healers quite obviously stay at range to cast their offensive and defensive spells.
Melee Healers: Warrior Priest, Disciple of Khaine
Range Healers: Shaman, Zealot, Archmage, Runepriest
All the healers have a mirror. This means if you are playing a Warrior Priest you have a counterpart on the Destruction side in the Disciple of Khaine.
Mirrors:
Disciple of Kaine - Warrior Priest
Archmage - Shaman
Rune Priest - Zealot

Melee DPS Careers
Witch Hunter, Marauder, Witch Elves, White Lion

The Marauder
In the frozen roof of the world - Norsca - live the many and various northern tribes collectively known as the Norse. Born in that frigid, hostile place, Norsemen are universally powerful – gifted with ferocity and strength at arms. Believing themselves to be closest to the gods, they flock to the banners of the great Chaos Champions in the hopes of proving themselves worthy of favor. These brutal Norse warriors are the Marauders – a fanatical throng whose only interest is destruction. Bred for war, dedicated to the gods, endlessly violent. This is all a Marauder knows or cares to be
Starting from level 1, Marauders get the ability to mutate their left arm into a claw using Gift of Savagery. This ability allows them to use other abilities such as Rend. As you level you gain other gifts such as Gift of Brutality and Gift of Monstrosity. You can look at these abilities as stances. What this allows you to do is perform certain attacks.
Each one of the above Gifts represents a Mastery Path. Each Mastery path focuses on DPS. Monstrosity seems to concentrate on more AOE damage, Savagery concentrates more on general DPS boosting and debuffs, and Brutality is a DPS build with a buff/defensive flavor to it.
What you should expect to do in game.
You’re going to DPS. Jump into the fray and find a target and kill it. There is nothing else you should be doing! Destroy your opponents! You also wear medium armor, so along with White Lions, you are the best armored among the melee dps careers.

White Lion
The proud and fierce White Lions have their roots in the lands of Chrace, where they have been know for centuries as woodsmen of great skill. While long ago, circumstance and necessity forced them to turn to the path of the warrior; they never neglected their roots, and today continue their ancestral woodsman axe to this very day.
Mechanics
The White Lion is a straight forward melee dps career. There are no combat mechanics that you have to worry about other than managing your action point pool. Several of your abilities are position dependent like Sundering Chop where the ability does X damage and ignores 50% of your targets armor if you’re behind them.
A long with your melee attacks you have a pet that changes in appearance as you level. There are basic controls for it, but it provides extra DPS as you do battle.
Your three mastery trees are The Hunter, The Axeman and The Guardian. The Axeman buffs your melee attacks, the Guardian buffs your pet with several different attack commands and the Hunter is a hybrid of both.
What you should expect to do in game.

Witch Hunter
The Witch Hunter is a tireless foe of Chaos, dark magic and witchery of all kinds. As the taint of Chaos continues to spread and more people are drawn to the dark arts, the Witch Hunters’ role has become increasingly important to the Empire. Fast, cunning and deadly, they dispense merciless judgment upon any who serve Chaos. While the people of the Empire agree that the Witch Hunters’ work is critically important, rare is the citizen who does not feel pangs of dread when they lay eyes upon one, for it is understood that most Witch Hunters would sooner burn an entire village to the ground than see a single follower of Chaos go free.
Mechanics
The best way to describe how a Witch Hunter works is World of Warcraft’s Rogue career. The Witch Hunter is the mirror career of the Witch Elf. With a sword and a pistol you build up Accusations against your target (up to 5) with sword thrusts like Torment. Then once you build up a sufficient amount of Accusations against the target you can unleash a devastating Execution like Trial by Pain. Your Accusations are built up in melee range, but your Executions, using your pistol, can be fired at range so you can get those fleeing heathens.
One thing worth noting, your Accusations stay on your target until they die so you do not lose them if you change your target. Very handy indeed.
All three of your mastery trees help you deal more damage. The Confession, the Inquisition and the Judgement paths are similar to the Marauder trees in that they don’t lend to one particular focus, but add more flavor for each path.
What you should expect to do in game.
You’re going to DPS. Jump into the fray and find a target and kill it. There is nothing else you should be doing! Destroy your opponents! You also wear light armor, so along with Witch Elves, you are the least armored among the melee dps careers.

Witch Elf
Witch Elves are the maiden-elves who are wedded to Khaine, the Lord of Murder, in midnight rites of blood sacrifice and magic. The decadent fragile looks of the maidens of Ulthuan are nothing compared to the intoxicating beauty of the Witch Elves. Witch Elves go to war alongside the Dark Elf armies, eager to prove themselves in the eyes of their god. For them the battlefield is just another temple of Khaine, and the screams of the dying are praises sung in honor of the bloody-handed god.
Mechanics
Much like the Witch Hunter, the Witch Elf can most be likened to World of Warcraft’s Rogue career. Dual wielding blessed weapons of Khaine, the Witch Elf builds up Blood Lust with abilities like Kiss of Agony up to 5 points. Depending on how much Blood Lust you have after your target you can execute a Frenzy ability like Render Heart Toxin.
All three of your mastery trees help you deal more damage. The Carnage, Suffering and Treachery paths are similar to the Witch Hunter trees in that they don’t lend to one particular focus, but add more flavor for each path.
